Summary
Background
Melissa is an established Architect with lots of experience in multi-family and modular architecture projects. She wants to transition into the high-design space. An appropriate digital portfolio is needed to support this transition.
Challenge
Melissa partnered with MGalen to design and develop a portfolio website. The goal was to competitively position her in the high-design architecture space.
Results
We created a minimalist website. It draws all attention to the beautiful images of her previous projects. The website helps recruiters notice her value immediately, and facilitates contact.
“I am thrilled with my portfolio website! It was overwhelming to start the project on my own. Michael led me through the process with ease, synthesizing my goals and aesthetic.”
Process
Strategy
We researched firms and individuals existing where Melissa would like to be in the future. We also analyzed the aesthetics of high-fashion and other high-design spaces.
Design
Research insights led us to a minimalist design, using white space to focus the attention on images. Text is limited, with soft contrast and few fonts. Navigation is minimal. The design welcomes recruiters and employers with attractive work samples. Then, it provides an elegant contact card.
Development
With so many images, page load time was a concern. We made sure to optimize every image for its size and the user’s device size. Then, provided large versions to be viewed with a click. Melissa wanted to be able to update and add projects herself. So, an intuitive Content Management System was also crucial. We created a form for adding projects. Each input prompted her with examples from her own projects.
“I can’t imagine a smoother process. He really worked to understand my needs and desires, then translated them into an elegant website.”
